Microsoft has unveiled the name of the successor to its infamous Internet Explorer browser as Microsoft Edge. Unfortunately, Edge’s logo pays homage to its predecessor by sharing strong design similarities with Internet Explorer.
On the left is the logo for the current version of IE. It is shaped like a globe and is completed with an orbiting ring. On the right is the awkward new Microsoft Edge logo. It’s still blue, it’s still a lowercase ‘e’ and it’s still bisected by the IE halo.
Although the change is barely noticeable for some users, we think Microsoft are hanging on to the past and not looking to the future. Is it time Bill Gates and co handed the torch and packaged Firefox or Chrome with their operating system. We think so. What do you think?
